WHAT ARE SCHOOL COLORS PLA+?
School Colors PLA+ is our line of 3D printer filament mixed to match the colors of well-known schools, so your team spirit shows up in your prints just the way it should. Game day decor, desk gear, cosplay props, a gift for the grad. If it needs to be exactly the right shade, this is the spool.
We're called School House Spools, after all. What do you go to school for? To learn. So here's a quick lesson on what these spools are, why they exist, and why they cost a little more than our everyday filament.
THE WHAT
A PLA+ spool, Pantone matched to a school color. There are 16 shades today, and the collection keeps growing toward 100.
THE WHY
Because close enough shows. When your prints are headed for a crowd that knows the real color by heart, a shade that's slightly off is the first thing anyone notices.
THE PRICE
Two reasons: it's PLA+, not plain PLA, and the color matching is extreme. Both take more work to do right. The cake explains the rest.
SHEET CAKE VS. WEDDING CAKE
Think of a bakery. You can buy a cake anywhere, but that doesn't mean the cake is any good. Plain PLA and PLA+ are both cake. They're just not the same cake.
PLA: THE SHEET CAKE
Everyday, reliable, and perfectly good. It gets the job done and it's great for the everyday stuff. This is our standard PLA.
PLA+: THE WEDDING CAKE
Denser, built with better ingredients, and priced for the occasion it's made for. This is what School Colors is made from.
Every brand's PLA+ is a little different, so results vary from one spool to the next.
WHAT GOES IN THE BATTER?
Every brand of PLA+ has its own secret recipe, and ours is ours. Across the industry, makers blend extra ingredients into PLA to toughen it up. Some work in flexible materials like TPU, others use things like PBAT, and there are plenty of other additives used for impact resistance, rigidity, or heat tolerance.
We keep our exact recipe to ourselves, the same way a good baker keeps the family recipe in the family.
EVERY TIER, EXACTLY
A wedding cake has to match the wedding.
Every tier needs to be the right color, in front of a crowd that will notice if it's off. That's how we treat School Colors PLA+. Each color is Pantone matched to a school's colors, and every batch is color matched too, so a spool you buy today matches the one you buy next year.
That extreme level of color matching is a big part of why these spools cost more than our standard PLA. You're paying for the exact shade, not a close guess.

FLORIDA
A NOTE FROM THE FRONT OFFICE
You might notice our shade names are general, like "Ohio Red" instead of an official school color name. That's on purpose. We keep the names generic while we work toward getting approval from schools directly, and our plan is to reach out to each one. The color itself is what counts, and that's Pantone matched.
Colors grouped by state are grouped that way just to make browsing easier. Colors in the same group aren't necessarily from the same school.
BUILDING A BIGGER ORDER?
Any 8 spools, in any mix of materials and colors, drops to bulk pricing automatically in your cart. No code, no special product.
CLASS DISMISSED
You can buy filament anywhere. That doesn't mean it's worth the premium. Thanks for staying after class, and go print something you're proud of.
